A Note to Parents Dear Parents,
Welcome to the most love-filled, rewarding and hardest relationship you
may ever have . . . parenting.
Have you found yourself looking for the right way to be a parent?
Have you sometimes wondered where the How To instruction booklet is?
As parents we rely on lots of voices to help us figure out what to do
with our children: Our own inner voice, the voices of our own parents,
our friends and of child development experts.
We would like to offer you a resource that is easy to use, filled with
information and ideas that will support you in further developing
confidence and resourcefulness as a parent, yet presented in an upbeat,
lively and often humorous way.
Take a look at our video courses. They were created with parents and use
questions from parents as wells as parent-developed solutions.
In the videos we discuss many examples of challenging behavior; we work
to come up with strategies that support the child, as well as the parent;
and we practice different ways to respond. We also cover the many
stresses parents experience: balancing work and family, navigating new
family relationships, parenting with a partner.
You can use these videos in many different ways. You can casually watch
all or part of a class in your spare time. You can loan them to your
friends and then discuss them. You can use the enclosed book we will
send you with each set of videos and read the assignments each week. You
could have a support group with other parents that reads and meets
regularly to watch these videos and discuss parenting issues.
